Tinker & Rasor RF-IT Above Ground Insulator Tester

The Tinker & Rasor RF-IT allows you to verify that there are no shorts in your above ground pipeline insulator.  This device is also perfect for checking flange bolt shorts.  The RF-IT uses radio frequency to operate.  You put a probe on each side of the insulator and it tries to apply radio frequency between the two.  If the signal is able to travel between the probes easily and the device receives a strong signal then it will alert you that there is a short somewhere between the two probes.  It will emit an audible beep and you can use the speed of the beeps along with the LCD sliding scale to determine the location of the short.

The RF-IT is factory calibrated so no field adjustments are needed to be made.  This device also has a 10-minute auto shutoff feature to prevent it from accidentally being left on.   You can also use it on structures that have no cathodic protection if needed.  The entire unit is contained within itself making transport of the device simple.
